No, it didn’t rain on the track. The water pit is an obstacle that runners must cross in the steeplechase, a sport that you aren’t likely to see outside the Olympics. The barrier is taller and much more solid than a mere hurdle. It is meant to stay upright even if athletes strike it or step on the rail. If you accidentally catch your toe on it while flying over the top, there is a good chance you’ll fall on the other side and break something. That is why the steeplechase is reserved for the stout of heart.
